I am honored to have received the California Safe Schools 2013 Environmental Health Champion recognition. The ceremony at Euclid Elementary school last Friday honored three others who have contributed their efforts and energy to the community. The organization acknowledged my years participating on the Advisory Board of the Integrated Pest Management Team for Los Angeles Unified School District. As a result of this Integrated Pest Management Program, Los Angeles is one of the nation’s leaders in minimizing the use of pesticides in our schools and avoiding altogether the use of the most toxic chemicals. This is true preventive medicine considering how many devastating illnesses are associated with pesticide exposures. This model is being sought after by other school districts nationwide who also want to protect their students and staff. I feel very privileged to be a part of the program and to have received the award.
