A Second Chance for the Labeling of Genetically-Engineered Foods

California Senate bill, SB1381, is due to come out of committee later this week.  This bill would require the labeling of genetically engineered foods.  Concern about the ill effects of these foods has continued to grow.  Besides, that is the possibility that other countries to whom we export are going to prohibit the import of these foods.  This means there is are financial risks as well as a health risk to these foods.  In another blog I will discuss concerns about the herbicide, glyphosate, that is used on some of the genetically-engineered crops.

In the meantime, please encourage your California state senator to support this bill. Calling is most effective.  Here is the key line from the email I received: “SB 1381 has made it through three Senate Committees!!!  It will be voted on the Senate Floor sometime between Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30….then on to the Assembly…if we do our jobs!”

For more information about the bill and the work to bring it out, go to http://www.caforgefoodlabeling.org/endorsement_main_page.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to support your health and that of everyone in the state.
